Remedies to current challenges of handling domestic and industrial waste in Botswana, as a strategy towards environmental protection

Botswana has been facing challenges of accumulation of a variety of waste over the years. The lack of a complimentary waste management system and an effective waste management plan to combat the increasing volumes has not helped this unfortunate scenario.  Dumping of waste at municipal landfills has compounded the waste management problem because of the lack of a developed and enforced waste management system. Almost any form of waste finds its way into the landfills, from solid waste, chemical, toxic to e-waste, mainly because of the lack of a proper waste management system. The lack of public education on the hidden economic value of waste and how waste should be handled and managed remains an area that needs to be seriously explored going into the future. / read more
