Green Loop > Environmental Assessments

Green Loop as licenced environmental practitioners and a mediator between the Government of Botswana and developers, offers Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs). We undertake The environmental assessments guided by the Botswana Environmental Assessment (EA) Act 2010, the Amendments (Act) of 2020 and international guidelines to identify and mitigate the potential impacts or effects of proposed projects, plans, programs, policies, or legislative actions relative to the physical-chemical, biological, cultural, and socioeconomic components of the total environmental and social product life cycle. The Green Loop environmental assessment process is as follows:

    • Screening to determine which projects or developments require a full or partial impact assessment study.
    • Scoping to identify which potential impacts are relevant to assess, to identify alternative solutions that avoid, mitigate or compensate adverse impacts on biodiversity.
    • Assessment and evaluation of impacts and development of alternatives, to predict and identify the likely environmental impacts of a proposed project or development, including the detailed elaboration of alternatives.
    • Reporting the Environmental Impact Assessment report and a non-technical summary for the general audience.
    • Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment, based on the terms of reference (scoping) and public (including authority) participation.
    • Decision-making by the Ministry of Environment & Tourism through the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) on whether to approve the project or not, and under what conditions.
    • Monitoring, compliance, implementation, and environmental auditing. Monitor whether the predicted impacts and proposed mitigation measures occur as defined in the report.
